Exploration, Games & More
The natural setting of Sturtevant Camp provides many sightseeing opportunities: the big “Spruce” trees, ferns, chapparal and wildflowers. There are dozens of bird species to spot and vistas to enjoy by hiking to Mt. Wilson or Newcomb Saddle. For a short trip take the self-guided nature walk up to the camp’s helipad for a view of Big Santa Anita Canyon. On hot summer days, splashing in the cool, spring-fed waters of Big Santa Anita Creek makes for a refreshing occupation.
Activities at camp include volleyball and croquet behind the ranger cabin, badminton on the original badminton court, ping-pong inside the lodge, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and of course, the famous Big Swing. Board games and playing cards are available in the Adams Fireplace Room, as well as a piano and an assortment of folk instruments.
The outdoor chapel offers a quiet, peaceful place for spiritual meditation or more formal services. It is also an excellent location for conference speeches and musical performances.
